When hubby and I moved into our new built home, we were never satisfied with how the builders designed our closet. Home builders aren’t closet design experts. After a year of living in our home we finally made the decision to create more space in our walk-in closet.

After loads of research we felt The Container Store Custom Closets was the best solution for our needs.

The Consultation

We scheduled a Virtual In-Home Design consultation with virtual designer, a new service offered by The Container Store. We immediately fell in love with Anna from the Galleria Dallas location. The purpose of the first meeting was for Anna to learn more about our space. There’s a guide on The Container Store website to help you measure your space so she was already prepped with those details prior to our call. We gave her a virtual tour of our space and discussed what was most important to us.

During this meeting, our designer covered each system offered by The Container Store. We also covered our budget. Based on our needs the Elfa Décor and Avera were the systems Anna decided to have prepared for our second meeting. My husband has over one hundred plus pairs of shoes and it was very important to the both of us to get rid of the shoe boxes to declutter the closet. I really wanted a full length mirror. Once we shared these details, our designer began working on the design. This process was seamless. We knew exactly what we wanted so this part was difficult, however I do recommend you fully understand your needs prior to scheduling your first meeting with the design expert.

A week later, we had our second meeting. Our designer customized our space by providing two design options that were both perfect for our needs. It was a tough choice between the Avera and Elfa Décor systems. What made it so tough? The Avera just felt extremely luxury which is totally what the hubs and I like. The Elfa Décor system was really nice too. Anna also made product recommendations like the mirror, tie rack, valet rods, storage containers, hangers, etc. She didn’t leave anything out. She made it extremely easy for us which is what we loved most because she did the work and all we had to do was say yes or no!

We spent a few days to think over our decision. We really wanted to be sure we were happy with our closet for the long haul. We reached out to our designer and informed her we’d like to go with the Elfa Décor system. She agreed we made the perfect choice!

The Installation

Next was the installation process. With the Elfa Classic and Elfa Décor, you can DIY. My husband and I are far from DIY’ers so of course we opted to have someone from The Container Store install team get the job done. This is an additional fee, but if you prefer to save, then you can do it yourself and save the extra coins. The installer arrived at 9am and worked until about 3pm. We had a eight valet rods installed which is a new feature to the Elfa line and it took a bit longer than usual. The installer came back for an additional two hours the following day. The installation typically takes a day or two depending on the size of your closet. The process was smooth and and we were grateful we didn’t have to do this on our own.

Once we got everything installed, we had the task of placing all the items back into the space.

We were so in love with the fact that we could actually see everything. Some of our favorite features are the gliding shoe shelves and the accessory trays that can easily be placed inside of the drawers. We wanted to keep the vibe of our closet black and white so we selected these black laundry bins.

We picked these black storage containers for items we hardly ever use. We also like uniformity and preferred to use the same hangers for everything. These rubber nonslip hangers are the best and makes the space look so much more neat and nice.

Now I’m a sucker for clutches and small handbags and really needed a solution to have a more organized look. This clutch and small bag organizer was a life saver and is perfect for any closet.

My husbands absolute favorite beyond the space for his shoes are the valet rods. Again, this is new for the Elfa system and definitely helpful for those who love to plan out their outfits for the week and like to have them in a special place where it’s easily accessible and can be seen. We both loved the gliding tie rack and belt rack

I can’t forget to mention I have a ton of showstopper necklaces and I really wanted to place them on display so I picked this to showcase those beautiful pieces.

Lastly, The Container Store doesn’t offer floor length LED mirrors at the moment so our designer hand picked this mirror for me.

Overall, we are extremely pleased with our Elfa  Décor closet. It’s the dream closet we’ve always wanted (especially my husband... lol). Now let’s hope we keep everything clean!
