I’m SO excited Jedi’s playroom is finally completed. This is a space I’ve been really looking forward to being done because I got tired of his toys being everywhere due to lack of storage for his belongings. Also, living  through a global pandemic and having a kid toddler at home 24-7 forces you to get creative.

When I discovered Pottery Barn Kids offered  virtual design services, I reached out immediately. The hubs and I do are best with designing, but we love getting help from design experts. The most important thing we desired for Jedidiah’s playroom is for it to feel very similar to his Montessori in case we make the decision to homeschool. I created a Pinterest Board with all of my ideas for a playroom and shot it over to my friends at Pottery Barn Kids. The hubs and I also spent a great deal of time browsing through Pottery Barn Kids website to select playroom furniture we absolutely loved.

First Virtual Design Meeting

We were paired with one of the BEST designers, Shawn Phaby, General Manager at Pottery Barn Kids Knox location in Dallas. She’s been with #PBK for over 15 years. We sent our Pinterest Inspiration to Shawn a few weeks prior to our meeting. This gave her enough time to develop some design options for us. During our virtual meeting, we shared everything that was important to us. Outside of storage and a space that felt like a place for  learning, we also wanted the room to be very bright and colorful to get Jedi’s imagination going.

Here are the design options she presented to us!

By the end of our call we decided to go with the colorful and bright option.

In-Home Design Meeting

As we got more personal with Shawn, we found out she lives pretty close to us. She offered to come to our home and get a better feel for the space (of course, wearing a mask). She took measurements of his playroom and his bedroom (we’re working with Pottery Barn Kids for Jedi’s bedroom too).

Shawn also gave paint color recommendations. She pulled out the paint swatches from Sherwin Williams and since the color theme of our entire home includes black, we decided to go with Tricorn Black. We originally opted to paint the accent wall all black, however the hubs and I decided against it because we felt it may darken the space a bit too much.

We went back and forth on stripes and then as I was browsing through Pinterest, I found a really unique geometric design. The hubs fell in love with it, but I wasn’t sure it was going to be a good fit. We told Shawn we’d sleep on it a few more days, but to go ahead and place the order for the playroom.

Paint Day

We ended up going with the geometric design for the accent wall. There was no way we were going to attempt to paint it ourselves so we found this wonderful company on Handy. They were quick and completed the job in two days.

We knew we needed someone to help with assembling everything as our garage was filled with large boxes from Pottery Barn Kids. My husband is not handy at all so we hired handy man to help us out.

Installation Day

The awesome handy man arrived and put everything together in less than three hours. We Facetimed Shawn a few times prior to her arrival to ensure the shelves were done the right way. We selected these shelves for the playroom and they completely took the space to another level. We used these storage baskets for Jedidiah’s toys. They’re such a life saver and help keep his playroom tidy.

Once Shawn arrived she hung up all the colorful artwork where she felt they would stand out the most. We LOVE the artwork Shawn selected.

We split the playroom into sections; art, music, study and reading.

The Study & Art Section

Jedi loves to write and draw so we selected this easel art station to give him the freedom to create. Shawn also felt it was best to get this table since it came with paper to draw. She also highly recommended this chalkboard to enhance the space. We got this magnetic strip for Jedi to hang all of his artwork and any awards or achievements.

The Music Section

We’re a family of music lovers so it was a no brainer to get Jedi a toddler grand piano like this. Jedi plays the piano while singing and we’re his backup band with our instruments in this set we got from Pottery Barn kids.

The Read & Relax Section

We have a really large window with seating we’ve yet to add a cushion or window treatments but soon to come. This will be our area to read lots of books, relax and play games. We love this alphabet puzzle we do together as a family with Jedi. We also like this fun learning game he can play once he gets a little older. We normally just spread game pieces on this high quality rug (it feels SO good when you step on it). Jedi also enjoys making us delicious meals with this food set.

We LOVE the playroom and so pleased with how everything looks and feels. Shawn outdid herself with this space and we are so thankful to our friends at Pottery Barn Kids.
